LobstaFest (or CurryFest 2009)

CurryFest is a long-term study (started c. 1993) on the chronic and acute exposure of diverse populations to curry while in omnifarious locations.  The study design consists of compressing increasing numbers of people, from ever changing locations, into larger domiciles (as the net worth of the participants permits), feeding them curry and seeing what happens.  The experiment is controlled for ‘enrollment bias’ by including an increasing number of participants who were given no choice but to come along (they did not get to pick their parents – they are VERY clear on this point).  The study is conducted under the leadership of Mr. Ali, with medical supervision by Dr. Chen.  The chaos (results) are ‘analyzed’ by Drs. Elliott, Ali, Elliott & Finnila (you never know when a geological perspective will be valuable).  Unexpected, incomprehensible or inexplicable results are passed over to Mr. Dow and his young apprentice Mr. Hugunin.

This year’s experimental location was Mount Desert Island & Acadia National Park, Maine.  There were so many participants that any linear or regular documentation proved to be impossible.  The following pictures represent one attempt.

The CurryFesters rental house (the Captain Nathan Clark House) was on Mt. Desert Island. Cadillac Mountain is in Acadia National Park and is the first place the sun hits the USA each morning.  The park contains many hiking, biking and climbing trails.  Some of us went up the Precipice Trail (considered by some to be 'Challenging').

We had LOTS of lobster, one night at Thurston’s.

Asticou Azalea Garden, Thuya Garden, Echo Lake (warmer than the ocean), Jordan Pond house and Northeast Harbor were visited by some.

The weather was fantastic (the locals told us that we were there the only sunny week all summer), but there was one day of fog, so pictures were taken of the harbor and some birds flying.

With the increasing number of command participants (the kids), the local playground was important.

Much fishing on the pier across the road from the house provided us with sashimi.

Hilary’s parents joined us and took us sailing on the 16th, the 18th and the 20th.

The last night we had a spectacular sunset.

Stacy and David got some interesting pictures on the way home landing in Texas in a storm.
